About Birds on the Line
NEW IN! Birds on the Line
Birds on the Line went live back in November 2007 as a brand new online poetry magazine amongst an entire sea of them. It's a daunting place to be: right at the beginning of everything, with success and failure as equal possibilities. It's a feeling the editors of Birds on the Line know well; as writers ourselves, we know how disheartening a 'no' can be, but also how elating your first 'yes' is.
It can be difficult to carve out a niche for yourself, and Birds on the Line has already experienced both successes and failures over it's short existence, with snowballing backlogs of submissions mixed with the excitement of our very first Featured Poet Competition.
2010 is bringing a slightly new incantation for Birds on the Line, and, for the first time, we are extending the submissions we accept.
Birds on the Line is seeking to be more than another poetry magazine, to give new angles and perspectives, and more chances for new writers to get their work seen. Poetry submissions are the backbone of Birds on the Line, and they always will be, but we know that most writers don't just write poetry, and they don't just read poetry either.
Birds on the Line now accepts submissions of:
Poetry: including text poetry, concrete and picture poetry
Prose: up to 750 words
Articles: on any literary subject up to 1,000 words
Book Reviews: up to 750 words
We also have a brand new Poetry & Literary News page, which you can also submit to; whether you're running a poetry workshop, releasing a book or starting up a new magazine, let us know about it.
Despite the changes, Birds on the Line still seeks the same from writers as it did before: exciting, brave, innovative work, and above all, we value honesty. Always write from your gut.
